This 5 part design series is geared towards beginner to intermediate potters looking to level up their surface design game, add character to their pots, and receive more consistent glazing results. Sign up for the complete series, or choose your sessions a la carte. Simple porcelain cylinders will be provided for each session, or you can bring your own pots!
PART 1 - Thurs. 10/1 6:00-8:30p: Mishima Design by Meg Ryan
- In part 1, Meg Ryan will guide you in the technique of Mishima through design, execution, and discuss glazing options and results. Porcelain or a low grog clay body recommended for this technique.
PART 2 - Thurs. 10/8 6:00-9:00p: Sgraffito by Meg Ryan & Underglaze by Megan Wilson
- In part 2, You will learn 2 different techniques using underglaze including Sgraffito (the technique of carving through underglaze) taught by Meg Ryan and using underglaze for painting images & line work taught by Megan Wilson. Porcelain or a low grog clay body recommended for sgraffito. Any clay body will work for underglaze techniques by Megan.
PART 3 - Thurs. 10/15 6:00-8:30p: Slip Trailing by Meg Ryan
- In part 3, you will learn how to slip trail including prepping your slip and slip application tips and tricks taught by Meg Ryan. If you are providing your own pots, please also bring dry trimmings of the same clay body to create your slip. Pots and slip provided will be porcelain.
PART 4 - Thurs. 10/22 6:00-9:00p: Carving by Meg Ryan & Water Etching by Megan Wilson
- In part 4, you will learn 2 different techniques including relief and dimensional carving by Meg Ryan and Water Etching by Megan Wilson - both of the techniques taught will add dimension and make an image stand out. Porcelain or a low grog clay body recommended for this technique.
PART 5 - Thurs. 10/29 6:00-8:30p: Glaze planning, composition, & application by Megan Wilson
- In part 5, you will learn all about the glaze behavior, how to plan your glazing, glaze composition, and glaze application tools and tips taught by Megan Wilson. Please bring 3-4 pieces of pottery with you to this workshop. Any cone 6 clay body will work.
REFUNDS/RESCHEDULING: Due to the one-off nature of these workshops, rescheduling is not available. Refund requests made prior to 14 days before your workshop date will be offered in full. Any refund request made within 14 days will be given a 50% transfer credit to a future class. All refund requests must be made prior to the start of your workshop date.
